The aging of the population, like globalization, urbanization and climate change, is regarded as one of the four major challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. According to United Nations-related materials, there are currently 600 million elderly people in the world, three times as many as 50 years ago. By 2050, the elderly will exceed 2 billion. In some developed countries, more than 1/3 of people over 50 years old will reach 1/2 by 2035. Of the more than 8.3 million inhabitants in Austria, nearly 2 million are over 60 years old; of the more than 81 million people in Germany, more than 20 million are over 60 years old.
An interesting phenomenon is that this group with the strongest purchasing power seems to have been neglected by cabinet enterprises for a long time. People habitually target consumers at the "golden consumption level" between the ages of 20 and 49, and it is difficult to see the "aged industry". With the development of the economic downturn, merchants gradually realized that the purchasing power of the 50-year-old or over 60-year-old group is also very strong, and now this part of the consumer's pocket is becoming the coveted fat. Various products for "50+" and "60+" are also quietly appearing.
Related to this, people born at the peak of childbirth after the end of World War II are entering the “old age groupâ€. Experts estimate that by 2035, Germany ’s people over 50 will account for more than half of the country ’s population. The market potential of this group and its "vote power" under the electoral system are self-evident. Whoever has the support of this group will have a solid foundation for governance.
It is against this background that the German government decided two years ago to allocate 4 million euros from the federal budget to support scientific research institutions, enterprises, associations for the elderly and consumer associations in order to promptly spawn Germany ’s “aging industryâ€. Strive to make Germany the "leader" of the world's "aging industry".
A survey of more than 5,000 elderly households in the state of the NRW government in Germany shows that the average monthly disposable income of elderly households is 2550 euros, 87% of elderly households have disposable cash of 12750 euros, and 15% of elderly households have disposable cash. More than 50,000 euros, 62% of elderly families have real estate. Actively developing "aging industries" can bring at least 100,000 jobs to the state. This is a "huge opportunity" for both government and business.
